What You Need to Bring

Use the itemized lists below to prepare yourself or you loved one for short or long term stay in one of our treatment programs.

Children & Adolescent Packing2020-12-23T19:10:51-05:00

We typically suggest ten full outfits, but wardrobe items can be switched out as often as you or your loved one desire.

Can have the following clothing items:

  • Jeans (button and zipper closure)
  • Cargo pants (button and zipper closure)
  • Cargo shorts (button and zipper closure)
  • Jean shorts (button and zipper closure)
  • T-shirts (long enough to tuck in)
  • Long-sleeved shirts (long enough to tuck in)
  • Polo shirts
  • Button up shirts
  • Sweatshirt (no hood, strings or full front zipper)
  • Sweatpants (any strings will be removed)
  • Gym shorts (any strings will be removed)
  • Light jacket
  • Winter coat
  • Slip-on sandals
  • House slippers (with a back)
  • Shoes (shoe bands will be provided for shoes that have laces)  
  • Gym shoes (especially for Barbourville School)
  • Rain/all-weather boots (especially for Barbourville School)

Leave the following clothing items at home:

  • Garments with inappropriate comments, drug references or alcohol references.
  • Clothes that are too tight, too short (shorts/skirts) or too loose (falling off)
  • Belts
  • Boots
  • Strings
  • Super stretchy clothing (i.e., leggings)
  • Please Note: Barboursville students  cannot have leggings/jeggings, spandex/compression garments, or knee socks

We provide the following, but they are allowed to bring their own if they have or need:

  • Some toys (especially for younger patients)
  • Deodorant (no strong scents)
  • Bodywash (no strong scents)
  • Shampoo (no strong scents)
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush (not electric)
  • Razors (if male shaves)
  • Shaving crème (if male shaves)
  • Mouthwash (alcohol-free)
  • Youth are allowed one of each item, and it must be in a clear container
  • Please note: No personal hygiene products are to be brought to Barboursville School

The following items are not permitted:

  • Wire notebooks
  • Game systems or other personal electronics, like phones
  • Toys with magnets
  • Glass
  • Fidget spinners
  • Crayons, markers or colored pencils
  • Glass bottles
  • Aerosol cans
  • Alcohol-based liquids (i.e., mouthwash containing alcohol)
  • Cash above $50

Senior Adults Packing List2019-01-11T17:26:21-05:00

Patients can bring up to seven weather-appropriate outfits upon arrival. Due to limited storage, we ask that they not have more than this at any given time, but their wardrobes can be refreshed as often as you like. Personal hygiene products are provided but if there is something specific that your loved one likes you may pack it for them. Please remember that clothes with drawstrings and belts are not allowed. Patient’s meals and snacks will also be provided, but If you want to bring a snack for them during visitation, it should be in a sealed package and should be able to be consumed during your visit. Food cannot be stored in patients’ rooms.
