Individualized Treatment & Education

At River Park Hospital, treatment and discharge planning begin at admission with a thorough assessment. We put together a robust treatment plan, tailored for the needs and goals of the individual patient. Older adult mental health at River Park Hospital is provided by an interdisciplinary team consisting of a psychiatrist, therapist, teacher, nurse, case manager, mental health technician, activities specialist and other professionals. Multiple treatment methods are available, including:

  • Psychiatric/Medical Management

  • Therapies (individual, group and family)

  • Psychological Services (testing)

  • Nursing Services

  • Recreational Activities & Therapy

  • Education Groups

  • Recreational Activities

  • Case Management

  • 12 Step Work (chemical dependent track)

As senior adults age, we also know that it’s important for caregivers, such as private nurses or children, to continue their education about the needs of older adults working through mental health issues. We incorporate caregiver education in our treatment approach which can include:

  • Diagnostic education

  • Learning about the difference between a Medical Power of Attorney and Healthcare Surrogate

  • More education on Healthcare Surrogate and when will one be appointed

  • Rules and guidelines for the Healthcare Surrogate

  • Placement Options

  • Strategies in successfully dealing with a patient who has dementia
