Barboursville School

River Park Hospital Barboursville School

Barboursville School is a residential treatment facility for the mental hygiene of committed adolescents with serious emotional disturbance. Individualized treatment and education services are provided in a highly supervised and structured environment to both males and females between the ages of 12 and 18 years old.

The school is a secure, 24-hour residential treatment facility providing psychiatric and behavioral health services for adolescents who have demonstrated harm to self or others, resulting in a Chapter 27 Final Commitment within West Virginia. Students who have a severe clinical disorder with major deficits in family, social, educational and vocational adjustments, which cannot be served in less restrictive environments, can be placed at Barboursville School.

Barboursville School offers full-day, extended-year education services staffed by a principal, school counselor and fully certified teachers, employed by the West Virginia Department of Education.

This program utilizes a behavioral management system to incorporate a level system based on points earned throughout the day. Each level affords the student increased privileges and individual responsibilities. Therapies include

  • Individual Therapy
  • Groups Sessions
  • Behavior Management
